What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Toes After A Foot Injury?

Hello. About 4 days ago the metal bar that locks my sliding door fell ontop of my foot. It dented where it hit a little at first, but soon after it wasn t anymore. There s not much swelling at all, and no surface bruising but you can see some under the skin. I can t walk on it much or it hurts badly later on, or sharp pains immediately. I m now getting tingling in my toes and on the bottom of my foot. Also the pain seems to have spread from the impact spot teatds my toes. But it can feel just fine sometimes too, then crazy deep pain outta nowhere. I read if I broke or fractured there s not much more than putting a boot on anyways, so my mom got me one. I don t have insurance. Could I have fractured or broken bones, and if so is it safe to hold out on a dr to try and let it heal??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible, based on the fact that it appeared dented initially and the fact that the pain is so severe, that there is a fracture present.

The treatment of fractures of the foot varies depending on the extent of damage and where exactly the fracture is located. Though in some cases, there is no intervention, in others, it is required.

It is possible that if a fracture has occurred, it may heal okay on its own but it is also possible that this is not the case, it is difficult to predict since the exact nature of the injury is not known.

An X-ray would be the best option to determine the extent of injury present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
