What Causes Tingly Sensation In The Elbow?

i had my elbow rested on a desk and all of a sudden a shock like feeling rushed down my arm and into my hand. It caused a tingly sensation inmy hand like it had been asleep and now it hurts. It happen when ever anything touches my elbow. Is this anything i should worry about?
