What Causes Tiny Pea Sized White Bump On Soft Palate In Throat?

I have one tiny pea sized white bump on the soft palate in my throat. It has been there for about one week now. It is not getting bigger or smaller. It doesn t hurt, it s just annoying. Should I call my dentist ir doctor? Or is there something I can do to get rid of it myself?

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have small pea sized white bump on palate . Well there can be many reasons for bump on palate but in you case it seems to me that the most probable reason for bump on palate in your case is mucocele . Saliva moves from a gland into your mouth through tiny tubes called ducts. Sometimes, one of these tubes is blocked by some foreign body . The saliva pools at the blocked spot and causes a swelling, or mucocele. I would suggest you to consult dentist for proper examination . Doctor will check it physically by applying pressure and may order X-ray to find out if there is any salivary gland stone (sialolith) . Usually mucocele is harmless and do not need any treatment but if it is getting bigger and creating problem in day to day activities of oral cavity then it has to be removed surgically or sometimes naesupilization should also be done . For now do warm saline rinses and suck on sugar free lemon candy .
