What Causes Tiredness In The Afternoon After Having Lunch?

I notice that about mid day, or after I eat lunch I become tired. The last few days, I have worked through lunch and seemed to have much more energy. Is this something I should be concerned about? Today after having a quick fast food sandwich while on the road on my way from the work site, I could hardly stay awake!

Tiredness and at times sleepiness are normal feelings after meal and should not be something to worry about.In most cases, there is little to do about it.In the course of breaking down food into soluble absorbable forms, the digestive system triggers all types of responses within the body some of which involve the secretion of hormones like serotonin which is responsible for drowsiness.Also, melatonin, a hormone that induces sleepiness even though not released due to eating, food does influence its production.
Also, highly protein and fat foods can make you sleepy.This is the case with fast foods since they always have an insane amount of calories and fats.This is because these classes of food go through more complex digestive processes before being converted to energy.
The feeling you have is normal.To avoid or limit this feeling, i will advise you take balanced diet with good proportions of all nutrients, take enough water, avoid much sugar and eat in small quantities and more frequently.Get into regular physical exercises.
