What Causes Tissue Growth Leading To Blockage In Arteries Having Stents?
white male 60 had a massive heart attack 3 yrs ago, Was gone no pulse for 20 mins, brought back with defib and cpr at er. Life flighted to trauma cen in Hou tx, Life saved with 3 stents, in left LAD. A month ago was getting chest pain and shortage of breath with any kind of exersion. Dr performed heart cath, (had 80+ percent blockage in LAD) and baloon agioplasty. , my tissue had grown up in between 2 of the stents, could not restent the area, The previous stents were the medicene filled ones. Why is my tissue / scare tissue continuing to form new blockages?
Dear Sir Thanks for your query. Actually the stent itself causes an injury on the blood vessel wall, which heals with time. As in all healing process in body, a scar like tissue is formed at site of stent implantation. However at times (~5% of cases) excessive scar tissue is formed at site of implant leading to re-blockade or re-stenosis. Beside there is a tendency of blood vessels of affected individuals to form athersclerotic plaques. These plaques can form after the stenting at places different from stenting. sincerely Sukhvinder
