Chronic smoking (Nicotine) lead to deposition of carbon particles in lung. It also lead to damage to lungs and cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which makes lungs more prone to infections.
COPD may present with chronic productive (with phlegm) cough with excessive secretions due to infection. Family history of respiratory problem due to smoking, increase chances of developing respiratory problem due to smoking. For treatment get evaluated by Pulmonologist/Physician for treatment of COPD and psychiatrist for deaddiction.
