What Causes Toe Numbness When Diagnosed With Lump In The Lumbar Region?

I have an oval shamped lump in my lumbar region on the left side of my spine. It is hard and it does not move. I tried to massage it and it set my back on fire. My two big toes have gone numb. It is visible in the mirror that i have a lump. I can feel it with my hand. I m wondering what it could be.

Hello

Thank you for posting at HCM.

Lump is lumbar region which does not move points to some serious condition. As if it was a lipoma, it will usually be mobile like mouse. A painful lump can be due to collection of fluids in para-vertebral region usually due to tuberculosis or injury. In such cases we advise our patients to go for XRay Back & Xray spine , MRI Spine, and after confirming it on these tests, we need to get FNAC done.

Yes, the numbness in your toes can be due to compression caused on nerve roots by the lump present on your back.

If its cystic, you should be fine with drainage and antibiotics for few weeks/months. If its TB a radical treatment will be needed.

You are requested to contact an orthopaedic in this regard.

Hope to have informed you sufficiently.

Feel free to ask us any other question.

Thank you
