What Causes Tooth And Gum Infection After Treating Skin Cancer On The Face?

In 2012 i had a Melanoma cancer on my cheek and had a skin graft op to get rid of all traces of cancer, since then I've had three more ops to reduce the scarring. I've got gum problems and no bad teeth! the dentist has said i have periodontal disease that is affecting bone loss in my upper jaw that is loosening my two front teeth. I have swelling and infection that oozes puss . The dentist has not given any more antibiotics as they do no good. I am worried that it could be cancer . Hope you can help ? I've also lost weight (my own choice) but my boyfriend is worried that I am losing too much Many thanks Rachael.

Hi..
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain it seems that you have deep infection in gums that is leading to spread of infection deep into the jawbone that has been receeding due to infection leading to loosening or mobility of teeth..

Due to infection and gum recession there is loss of attachment of teeth from the gums making them mobile..
It is not due to cancer but a common form of gum infection leading to Periodontitis..

I would suggest you to consult a Periodontist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like Panoromic x ray has to be done..
You will be advised deep scaling and currettage followed by a course of antibiotics like Metronidazole along with gum paint massage, gargling with antiseptic mouthwash and warm saline gargles..

In case if the recession is in excess flap surgery is advisable..

Hope this helps..
