What Causes Total Body Jerking In A Person With Polymyositis And Fibromyalgia?

I have various auto-immune diseases and last night I woke up with total body jerking, but more intense in my arms. It was like when your cold and you can t quit shaking, but this was so much more and I was cold. At some point I must have quit and went to sleep. Upon awakening this a.m. I had to have my daughter s help to even move and was running a fever. I am also just coming off a very serious bladder infection (7 days of Rosefin), but no symptoms for several days. I have Polymyositis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and fibromyalgia could I have had a flare?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that the total body jerking you experienced was a symptom of a flare-up of your autoimmune conditions, such as polymyositis and fibromyalgia. Polymyositis is a condition that causes muscle inflammation and weakness, while fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that can cause muscle stiffness and spasms.

However, it's also important to note that total body jerking and fever could be symptoms of other underlying conditions or infections. The bladder infection you recently had could also be a contributing factor. It would be best to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any other potential causes and to determine the best course of treatment for your symptoms. They may also recommend some tests or imaging to get a better understanding of your current health status.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
