What Causes Transient Loss Of Consciousness In Patient With Heart Problem?

I am 66 yrs old.I do not have any problem ,related to heart and i am not diabetic also. Post my retirement i still lead a healthy and active life ,busy in coaching and mentoring Elec Engg students. On 26th noon hrs suddenly in an invitation venue, i was unconscious transiently although i did not have any chest pain or sweating. Later on after admission in a reputed hospital , ECG ,CT SCAN all were taken, which were normal .Even 24 hr Holter monitor did not show any prominent anomaly. I have been advised some antacid, Anzizem-30 and Sucral suspension and advised to take one more Holter monitoring after 6 weeks.. I am planning to go for 3 weeks trip. May pl advise what precautions i should take and what might have caused the transient loss of consciousness. Regards, S.guha

Hi,

Transient loss of consciousness can be caused by several factors, including heart problems. In your case, since you have been advised Anzizem-30, it suggests that the doctors suspect the possibility of a heart rhythm problem. Anzizem-30 contains diltiazem, which is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and heart rhythm disorders.

To prevent future episodes of transient loss of consciousness, it is important to follow your doctor's advice and take your medications as prescribed. Additionally, you should take care to avoid triggers that may exacerbate your condition, such as stress, dehydration, and excessive alcohol consumption.

If you are planning to go on a trip, it is important to bring along any medications that you have been prescribed and to continue taking them as directed. You should also make sure to stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, and avoid strenuous activities that could put undue stress on your heart. It may also be a good idea to discuss your travel plans with your doctor to ensure that it is safe for you to travel given your recent episode of transient loss of consciousness.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
