What Causes Tremors In Legs Followed By Numbness?

I have a friend staying with me, she is 75, and having spells where her legs will suddenly start trembling, feel numb, causing her to fall, and it is progressively getting more frequent, and moving up her body. She has fallen once where her whole body felt numb, but it last for say 20-30 seconds, then she is able to get back up (though still weak) and make it to a chair or the couch. She s had several tests done, lost her spouse 1 month ago, in under tremendous stress at this time, and someone says it might be all in her mind. I don t think so, as she has involuntary movement (tremors) when her legs go out. It;s happening 3-10 times per day.
