What Causes Tremors In The Body After Taking Cipro?

My mother is 91 and was recently prescribed Cipro ( on 9/17) for a UTI following the lab culture results. She has tolerated this antibiotic in the past. She started having tremors Thursday morning the 22nd. Following a trip to the ER, her PCP subsequently DC d the Cipro on 9/23. I have not previously heard of this reaction. The tremors are still continuing off and on today. Can you provide a timeline of how long it would be to see significant changes in this symptom or any other additional information that might be helpful. We have never seen this reaction before. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Before admitting her tremors are due to Cipro, we should rule out other pathologies for her age:
- cardiovascular event especially those related to the brain accident
- neurological (Parkinson's disease)
- liver or kidney problems, UTI itself can give tremors if kidneys are involved

If confirmed it's from Cipro, there might take 2 to 10 days after stopping the medication to start seeing improvement. Discuss this with her caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
