What Causes Twitching In The Shoulders And Head Of A Child?

My grandson, almost 4, in the last 3 weeks we have noticed when he is tired, he twitched from his shoulders and head, today he has started making funny grunting noises, he does not realize he is doing this. Can you give us a reason and what we should do about it. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes, these types of involuntary movements or gestures are normal in infants. No known reason is found. They will go away on their own.

To assure everything is ok, should consult with neurologist. Plus, get a complete blood count to rule out anemia, and check vitamin D and calcium levels in blood to rule out related deficiencies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
