What Causes Uneven Milk Flow In The Breasts Of A Nursing Mother?

Hello, I recently gave birth about a week and a half ago and I m breastfeeding. Unfortunatly my milk production has decreased significantly in one breast while the other one over produces milk. How can I resolve this issue? Not only is it uncomfortable for one breast to be noticeably bigger than the other but its giving me low self esteem issues.

Hi,
Thanks gor the query. I understand your concern.
Both breasts can be un equal in size normally.
While breast feeding milk se cretion depends on suckling by baby. The breast that is not much used remains small in size.. while the one that is suckled in the begining of a feed secretes more milk & gets bigger in size.
*Brest can be bigger in size due to engrgement... no drainage .. milk getting stagnated .. resulting in painful swelling. Please look for pain &induration in bigger side... if so visit a doctor for treatment of inflammation.
*If both brest are smooth.. and one side is bigger than other &secretes more milk...
-Start the feeding with smaller side to start the feeding every time..
Baby sucks more forcefully in begining&sucking beibg the stimulus for milk secretion .. brest starts secreting...thus both breasts would start secreting equally over the time & attain same size.
- try to pump out the smaller brest after feeding is over.. with breast pump... to accelarate milk secretion further.
-Take 1500 calories extra diet containg calcium, protein &vitamin cintaining food.
- Thanks.
