What Causes Unexplained Bruises On The Arm?

I have recently noticed about 15 small bruises on my right arm, mostly on the backs. I am a 63 year old womanm and have lost weight in the last six months due to noticing nausea when eating anything but a simple diet of steamed vegitables a little brown rice and protein prepared with almost no fats or oils.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are many reasons that cause bruises. Bruises develop when small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture, most often from a bump or fall. As a person ages, the skin becomes less flexible and thinner because there is less fat under the skin. These changes, along with skin damage from exposure to the sun, cause blood vessels to break easily. When blood vessels break, bruising occurs.

I think that in your case it is necessary to do a blood test because it can be caused by blood clots. One other reason can be malnutrition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
