What Causes Unexplained Weight Loss While On Istamet And Dapagliflozin?

Dear Sir , I am Mr. Supratim Chakraborty with age 51 years . I am a sugar patient with Fasting 140 and PP 200 . After taking Istamet 50mg/1000mg twice daily and forxiga ( dapagliflozin) once , my sugar level is fully under control but I have lost weight to the tune of 12kgs . With 5 9 I was 92kgs and now it is 80kgs within 4months. Is there anything to worry . Thanks and Regards ,

Hi,

Nothing to worry. The antidiabetic medication may cause decrease the insulin resistance, along with diet modification may lead to weight loss. usually GLP 1 analogue may promote the weight loss.

But remaining drugs like sulfonylureas or Meglitinides derivatives and insulin may promote weight gain. But same time you have to check other possibilities to causes weight loss like tuberculosis or malignancy or chronic diseases.

Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
