What Causes Unexplained Weight Loss?

I have been continuing to loose weight even though I have stopped exercising and I am not trying to loose any more weight. So far, all my labs have not shown that there is an imbalance anywhere. I had originally wanted to loose about 25 pounds, and now I have lost 41 lbs. I lost 13 lbs over a years time by drinking protein shakes and revamping my eating habits. I then joined a gym to tone up, and I lost another 7 lbs. Then I ended up getting a gum infection, having 2 teeth pulled due to that, and then I fell and had a knee arthroscopy done. I have not been to the gym in 7 months. Since I stopped going to the gym, I have lost another 21 lbs.

Hi welcome to health care magic.

Any chronic infection in body can lead weight loss, hence physical examination and CBC should be done to search for infection ..
If present treated accordingly..

Thyroid problem has to be checked by serum TSH estimation

HIV ruled out by ELISA testing ..

Chest x ray and sputum examination done to rule out tuberculosis.
Take healthy and balanced diet two times a day

Consult physician for examination and further work up

Take care
