What Causes Unpleasant Cold Sensations In The Throat?

Thanks. I have been experiencing this rather unpleasant cool sensation in my throat and upper palate, somewhat like the feeling I would get years ago when I had smoked too many cigarettes (I quit 30 years ago), and don t quite know what to make if it. Help?

Hi,

Abnormal sensations can sometimes be related to nerves that supply a particular area.

Abnormal nerve function is called neuropathy, it can be temporary in many persons.

If the symptoms persist or worsen then you may need to be seen. Some of the causes of neuropathy include:

(1) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(2) diabetes
(3) trauma
(4) thyroid disease
(5) kidney or liver disease
(6) exposure to toxins
(7) infection

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
