What Causes Unusual Nasal Odour And Chest Congestion?

When I breathe in, I smell odd odors. I am not congested. But when I take deep breaths, my lungs do seem to feel extended as if it is working harder than it should. I am not sneezing or coughing. I sense no chest congestion. I feel as though I have clear passages. but the odor drives me crazy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Unusual nasal odour commonly occurs due to nasal polyps, inflamed sinus, bacterial infection, mental issues, phantom smells may occur after respiratory infection, allergy, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, get swab tests, sputum tests, blood and imaging tests (X-ray PNS) done. Get treated. In the meantime, rinse your mouth, do gargling and taking steam inhalation may help. For smelly sinuses you can take antihistamines and decongestants orally.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
