What Causes Unusual Stool Smell And Rashes On The Buttocks In A Child?

So my son (age 2) woke up from his nap complaining that he needs a diaper change. When i changed him his stool had a strong ammonia smell to it. He was also saying ow and crying while i was cleaning him up and revealed that he had a slight rash. He has never had bowel movements that have smelled like that before.

Hi,

Based on your description, it appears that your 2-year-old son might have a mild gastrointestinal infection. Kindly give enterogermina once a day for 3 days. Give bland diet with good quality of water.

Apply hydrocortisone cream over the rashes twice daily. Gradually, he should improve and be back to normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
