Hi, for the last 6 months I have been losing a lot of weight. For about 3 months, I was getting very sick about once every 3 weeks or so. It was very bad stomach pains. Causing me to throw up viciously and diarrhea at the same time. It would last for about 3 or 4 hours, constantly throwing up to the point where I couldn t even leave the bathroom. In the last 6 months I have lost about 30-40 pounds. And now I feel like my stomach has shrunk a lot, because I cannot eat half as much as I used to be able to. I have not been able to make it to a doctor. Everybody told me I probably had an ulcer, and possibly some kind of worms. Lately I have been only eating about 1 big meal a day because I haven t had an appetite. I have lost alot of weight and I just want to get back to a healthy weight. I went from about 150 pounds down to about 110 pounds. It s caused me to miss a lot of work, and I am ebarrassed with how skinny I have gotten. Please help!
The weight loss of significant amount with diarrhea and vomiting do suggest significant underlying pathology of the GIT. The various range of possibilities are to be explored such as: - Inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis - Malabsoption syndrome - GI flora disturbances - Stomach ulcer, tumors - Tuberculosis of intestine - Tumor or stricture intestine
If you can provide me all the details of the reports done at your clinic for the evaluation of the diagnosis, it would be best possible way to come to a narrower differential diagnosis from this point of view.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
