What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain And Bloating While Treating Acid Reflux?

I have had upper abdominal pain for about two weeks and now I am getting a shooting pain in my upper right shoulder (I have had gas do that before but not last longer than a day) this pain comes on after I eat and last until late at night or all night. Ive had that symptom for the past three days. I have acid reflux and take nexium daily. I also have noticed more bloating then normal.

Hello,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern. Following is my advice:

Upper abominal pain associated with increased bloating is due to both acid reflux and nexium.
I think you should add antacids to your therapy to stabilize stomach pH and ease the symptoms.

Furthermore, take simethicone to ease the bloating, probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora.

Most important is to follow a strict acid reflux diet:
- have frequent meals but in small portions
- do not lay down immediately after eating
- have dinner at least 4 hours before going to bed
- raise your head at night with extra pillow
- avoid spicy/chocolate/frizzy/oily foods/drinks

Hope this helps. If symptoms will persist, gastroenterologist to consult further.

Wish fast recovery. Let me know if you have any other concern.
