What Causes Upper Abdominal Tightness And Shortness Of Breath?

I have shortness of breath that I feel is accompanied with upper abdominal tightness. I had a heart valve replaced about five years ago and have a defibrillator. The shortness of breath comes and goes at different times and I also wonder if it is anxiety trouble. Not saying that I have anxiety, just wondering.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There can be various issues with abdomen tightness and short breath as:
- GERD with severe acid reflux
- Stress, anxiety
- Gall bladder diseases as acute cholecystitis
- Liver problems
- Diaphragm pathology
- Lower lobe lung issues as pneumonia or others
- Heart related conditions

However, a systemic clinical examination is mandatory to evaluate the underlying cause and guide accordingly. If any of your reports of X-ray with or without ultrasound is available, kindly share with your doctor.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
