Hi,

Chest pain can be a worry for a lot of people and needs to be investigated to avoid any complications to health. Based on the details you have provided, seeing that you take Metoprolol - I suppose this is for a heart condition and you are 75 years old, taking Ibuprofen as well. My suggestion would be to be reviewed face to face by your physician as there are questions that would need to be asked.

For example:
i) Do you feel sweaty, clammy, unwell with chest pain and is this pain sharp and radiating to either your jaw or upper arms, +/- occasional palpitations - in this case, I would suspect heart or cardiac related chest pain
ii) Is it a burning pain, that is worsens with food, particularly spicy or fatty meal, then I would suspect either acid reflux or ulcer or pain from gall stones
It really varies, but the safest option would be a thorough history and examination of your symptoms and offer the best investigation related to your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Joy Anosike, General & Family Physician
