What Causes Upset Stomach And Yellow Skin While Treating Sinus Problem?

Hi, My name is Tatyana. We have a problem with dad s health. He had running nose and sinus problem. We went to the family doctor, she gave him nexium to help him breath better. He took three pills and side effect came up: stomach upset and he turned yellow. He had his blood test: everything looked good, but it showed some liver damage and protein as well. We went to natural grug store. We give him: HEP-3 to support liver, wobenzym N, Flor essence, turmeric, and essentiale forte. It has been for three weeks. He is tired, his skin color is fading but eyes are still yellow. What can you advice? Can we talk on the phone?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would advise you to get him investigated for the cause of jaundice. Jaundice is a sign and not a disease however it is due to some disease that the patient develops jaundice. The cause could be anything varying from a disorder of blood to hepatitis(liver infection) or even a gall bladder problem. The most common cause for jaundice is hepatitis. The treatment of jaundice would depend on the underlying cause.

Please note that Nexium is not given for breathing problems. It is a medication to reduce the acid secretion in stomach and is given along with other medicines which are likely to increase the acid secretion. It is not likely to produce any toxicity to liver leading to development of jaundice. I would advise you to get him tested for the above mentioned conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
