What Causes Urethral Spasms Despite Taking Antibiotics For Cystitis?

I am 77 and have a variety of health issues including systemic lupus, hypothyroid, elevated cholesterol, interstitial lung disease (8/15), Melanoma right eye (10/15), dvt diagnosed following fall causing buckle fracture left ramus & left thumb. While on Coumadin had episode of ischemic colitis. Now doing well except for waiting for pelvis to heal. My question is that I have had recurrent cystitis for probably 50 years and recently antibiotics don t seem to work. Also I am having more frequest spasms of urethera without other symptoms of infection. Urines were also negative at that time. Is this most likely because I ve had infections for so many years? Or because my mom had interstitial cystitis and could I have it too?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The urine should demonstrate the presence of a bacteria if one is present despite a history of recurrent antibiotics.

It is possible that you do have interstitial cystitis if the urine tests are not showing up the bacteria.

You should consider consulting an urologist for assessment. This would include repeat urine analysis and imaging.

I hope this helps
