What Causes Urge To Urinate And Defecate, Lower Back Pain And Swelling?

I have urgency to pee, and a strong urge to poop. I have lower back pain , more so on right side, it feels slightly swollen and hurts a bit on that side. Could I be passing a kidney stone? And can such and urge to poop with urgency to pee be a symptom?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I would like to explain that your symptoms may be related to different disorders affecting the abdominal organs, like:

- a pelvic inflammatory syndrome. This is more common in women after chronic infections.
- a kidney stone or infection would cause terrible lumbar pain (exacerbated by the knocking on that region of the back with your hand) and blood or other changes in the urine
- an urinary tract infection. This would not cause pain upside, but would explain the urge in urinating
- an infection or inflammation affecting the intestine, like appendicitis or diverticulitis could cause urge in defecating and also urination with pain.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a routine blood test for infection, blood electrolytes, kidney and liver function and an abdominal ultrasound.

Further tests may be needed to establish the possible diagnosis.

Hope to have been of help!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
