What Causes Urinary Incontinence In A Diabetic Patient?

I have a question about my bladder. I am 60 years olde, have had the normal bladder leakage (like when I sneeze, cough) But within the last months has gotten worse. The second I feel like I have to go, when I stand up it just starts running down my leg. I have no control. It will even go through a bladder leak pad. When I wake up at night, I will start to go the second I move. I am also going more frequently. Like every 20 minutes if I drink a lot, I usually only drink Ice Tea or water and an occasional Diet Pepsi. I am diabetic, and my blood sugar is controlled. I can t leave the house. i m still working and now am finding myself using the bathroom every hour just to avoid wetting myself. It seems to be worse at night especially when I lay down.

Hello,

The urinary incontinence in diabetes patient is surely due to diabetic neuropathy affecting bladder muscle (trigone) and internal sphincter of urethra. Kindly discuss the need of a uroflowmetry with your doc for final diagnosis and cure accordingly. Vigilant control of sugar is of paramount importance in your case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
