What Causes Urinary Incontinence Post Termination Of Pregnancy?

Good evening, Doctors. I went through termination of my 10 week pregnancy on the 5th of May. My recovery has been decent. Little bleeding and a bit of cramping. Still trying to recover a bit. My body has decided to hang onto a few of the pregnancy symptoms like bleeding gums, lethargy, frequent urination, etc. The only symptom that subsided was the extreme nausea. It s still there but definitely not anywhere near as terrible as it was before. My concern is incontinence. I m not sure it s actually incontinence but it s the closest I can explain in medical terms. I ve always been a very dehydrated person. However, since the procedure, I ve noticed a significant increase in fluid in my vaginal area. There s no odor or color as it s a clear fluid so I m curious of what this really could be, if not incontinence? (Side note: I do have my follow up appointment set for the end of this week.)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The clear fluid without odor indicates leucorrhea most likely with or without urinary tract infection. Vaginal infection with instrumentation is likely possible issue to cause the same. In my clinic, I do recommend a culture swab of the discharge for further guidelines accordingly. Till that time, following would help you:
- Drink more liquids
- Cranberry pills
- Avoidance of sexual intercourse (if active)
- Vaginal hygiene
- Wear loose, clean, cotton inner wears
- Maintain blood sugar level
- Discuss need of antibiotic or anti fungal medications with your treating OBGYN or family physician

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
