What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

Hi, I have suddenly developed a leaky bladder at night for the past 3 nights in a row. I have made no changes to my diet, am careful not to drink anything after dinner, am 57 years old, a female and have never had any children. I am alarmed at this and am wondering what could be causing this and how I can stop this? I am not noticing any other symptoms. I don t think I ve ever had a bladder or kidney infection and in fact am just now finishing a dose of a Z-pack for chest conjestion, so if I had an infection, i d think that would have helped that. Your thoughts?

Hello,

Urinary incontinence is common among women after 50 and usually caused by urinary infections or weakened the pelvic floor. It is also a common and often embarrassing problem. If overreactive or incontinent bladder affects your daily activities, don't hesitate to see your doctor.

For most people, simple lifestyle changes or medical treatment can ease discomfort. It treated with specific medications, pelvic floor muscles exercises, electric stimulation of behavioral treatment, and in most cases, it is adequate for incontinence control. If cystitis is a cause as a bacterial infection, then it must be treated with antibiotics. Surgical options are reserved for severe and intractable cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
 Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
