What Causes Urinary Retention After A Colonoscopy?

I had a routine colonoscopy 1/12/16 and have urinary retention immediately post procedure. Presented to e.d. yesterday. Bladder scan reported 500ml. I now have i.d.c till Friday relieving same 3rd hourly with removal of same Friday. Can I expect everything to return to normal?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I don't think this can be caused by colonoscopy itself unless there was serious complication such as bowel perforation and this is not likely. This may be caused by dehydration urinary infection or kidneys stones so you should do urine analysis and ultrasound or uritract to rule these out.
