I m female, 21 and in a longterm relationship with a great guy. But everytime we have sex I immediately start feeling like I have to urinate constantly. This discomfort lasts for weeks (6 weeks now for this latest time!). I don t have any pain, just the CONSTANT sensation of having to go . I ve seen a number of doctors..my primary, a urologist, and an ob/gyn. I ve been tested for STDs, UTIs interstitial cystitis, etc. I ve even gone on an exclusion diet to rule out food sensitivities and have had a cystoscopy. Everything has come back normal . I ve been on a number of meds to calm my bladder and now to help me sleep as this is causing horrible anxiety. It s effecting my job and my relationship! I have no idea where to turn to next! Can you please give me some ideas?
The only thing that comes to my mind after the extensive workup you have undergone is a condition called neurogenic bladder. A neurogenic bladder is a condition in which the bladder either performs in an under or overactive state due to nerve abnormalities, spinal cord defects, injuries, trauma, etc.
Although rare, but this could attribute to youe presentation as you seem to experience this only after sexual intercourse which could very well be the trauma or injurt factor here.
You should speak to your urologist or a neurologist about considering this diagnosis and acting upon it accordingly.
Best wishes.
