What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After A Multifetal Pregnancy Reduction Procedure?
I had fetal reduction from triplets to singleton almost a month ago. It went well, the ultrasound a week later showed the healthy baby was still alive and growing. I don t have an appointment for ultrasound for the anatomy scan for a couple days, and I have contacted the hospital that gave me my reduction and left a message.. but I am experiencing some blood loss. Most of it seems to be old blood, coming out brown... mostly when I m active... Usually only a little bit.. but when I stand for too long I end up losing what looks like mucous and sometimes red blood when I have bowel movements. Is this normal. The last 2 days I ve lost clots roughly the size of a quarter. Only 2 so far that I ve noticed... Is that probably just the identical pair bleeding out finally ? I m not experiencing pain, so I m not sure if it s a miscarriage

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Fetal loss after post-reduction procedure in multifetal pregnancy is possible
But in your case the remaining fetus was found to be growing to help it grow you should take rest, good nutrition &follow the instructions are given.
Stress might be the cause of the bleeding (likely to be from the extinct fetuses.
Though red blood &mucus is a bit alarming).. you should not lose courage.
Continue with all the care advised & consult your treating doctor for needful hormone replacement.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
