What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Having Rough Intercourse?

I ve been taking oral contraceptives since August of last year. When I have rough sex with my boyfriend, I tend to bleed. There is plenty of lubrication, and it doesn t hurt during sex. After sex, sometimes I feel minimal pain in the area where I usually have menstrual cramps. I don t remember bleeding before taking oral contraceptives. I don t know if it s correlated to that, and what I can do to prevent the bleeding. Thanks.

Hi,

Vaginal bleeding after rough intercourse can have several possible causes. Some possible causes of vaginal bleeding after rough intercourse include:
* Cervical or vaginal tears: Rough intercourse can cause small tears in the vaginal or cervical tissue, leading to bleeding. This is more common in women who are not sufficiently aroused or lubricated during intercourse.
* Infection: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia or gonorrhea can cause bleeding after intercourse. Infections can cause inflammation and irritation of the cervix or vagina, making them more susceptible to bleeding.
* Hormonal changes: Changes in hormone levels due to oral contraceptives can sometimes cause vaginal bleeding after intercourse.
* Polyps or fibroids: Uterine polyps or fibroids can cause vaginal bleeding during or after intercourse.
* Cervical cancer: In rare cases, bleeding after intercourse can be a sign of cervical cancer.

The doctor may perform a physical exam, a Pap smear, or other tests to diagnose the cause of the bleeding. Depending on the cause, treatment options may include antibiotics, hormonal therapy, or surgery. To prevent vaginal bleeding after intercourse, it is important to ensure adequate lubrication and arousal during sex, use condoms to prevent STIs and practice safe sex.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
