HI Doctor, i have regular period at 30-32 days interval. My cycle started on 29th March and ended on 2nd of April. 3rd Apr onwards, I was out for a vacation, lot of travelling. I had sex with my husband on 5th and started bleeding. I am worried. Is it something serious or has something to do with the sudden increase in physical activity

Hi,

Vaginal bleeding after intercourse can have several causes, some of which may be serious and require medical attention. However, it can also be caused by less concerning factors such as hormonal changes, vaginal dryness, or trauma to the vaginal area. In your case, it is possible that the sudden increase in physical activity during your vacation could have caused vaginal trauma or irritation, leading to bleeding after intercourse. It is also possible that the bleeding is related to hormonal changes or temporary disruption in your menstrual cycle due to travel.

However, it is important to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the bleeding. These can include infections, cervical or uterine abnormalities, or even cervical or uterine cancer in rare cases. It is recommended to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider to have a thorough evaluation and discuss any potential concerns or treatment options.

Your provider may perform a pelvic exam, order additional tests such as a Pap smear or STD testing, or recommend further evaluation by a specialist if necessary. In the meantime, it may be helpful to avoid intercourse until you have had a chance to see your provider and to monitor any additional symptoms such as pain, fever, or abnormal vaginal discharge.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
