What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Intercourse?

hi, ive been experiencing bleeding after intercouse for 2years... one of which i was on the contraceptive pill for. i discontinued this for that reason but it made no difference. of the pill now for 1 year. had a smear test result was normal, sti tests normal also. periods still irregular since coming of pill also, and experiencing some irregular bleeding also. what is cause of bleeding during and after sex?

(on contraceptive pill originally for irregular heavy periods. on pill for 5years and worked well. on year 6 blleeding during and after intercourse started, was treated with antibiotics for inflamations, still persisted, changed contraceptive pill 3times no change in symptoms. stopped pill for 1 year now, no change in symptoms. periods remain irregular since stopping pill. had 3 smear tests all normal, 2sets of sti tests all normal. )

Hello,
If local causes like polyps, erosions, infections and urinary tract infections have all been excluded, then the other possible causes for this bleeding during and after intercourse should be evaluated. These include hormone imbalances, trauma during intercourse, ovarian cysts which could lead to bleeding on pressure, tears of the vagina and vulva etc. Sometimes, local estrogen application can help build up a thin epithelium to aid in free intercourse; so also is the use of lubricants like K-Y jelly to facilitate intercourse.
