Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Receiving A Medroxyprogesterone Shot?
I got medroxyprogesterone injection on December 4th and I ve been bleeding since the 14th of December. the bleeding has gotten worse since the beginning of this month with lots of clot . This is my first injection and I got it as treatment for excessive bleeding supposedly caused by fibroids. I was given the tablet previously and it produced similar side effects.
Medroxyprogesterone injection contains a very high dose of progesterone. The body takes time to adjust to such high levels of hormones.
In most cases, it takes almost three to four months for the bleeding to become normal. But if you are having excessive bleeding and discomforts you should consult your gynecologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
