What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Sexual Activity?

I am experiencing vaginal bleeding after any kind of sexual activity, even fingering. I am not a virgin and this never used to happen before. A few months ago, it first happened and now it happens all the time. I've made my boyfriend cut his fingernails but it is still occuring. What can be the cause? I've heard things about cancer? is this a likely cause?
