What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Taking 'morning After' Pill?

i took a medical abortion pill in mid february. i went back to the doctor and they gave me a sonogram and said that everything looked like it came out of me. then i got my first period on april 20th and began having many big blood clots. i called the doctor again and they said that this may be normal. i took a morning after pill last week and i began to bleed yesterday and the blood is very bright red. i dont know if this is due to the morning after pill or something didnt go right with the medical abortion. but i dont have blood clots anymore, just bright red blood. kind of like a normal period. is this normal?
