What Causes Vaginal Bleeding And Absent Yolk Sac On Scan During Pregnancy?
I am currently 5 w 3d. I have had some bleeding and had a few ultrasounds. They were concerned about my HCG numbers. 14, 000 3 days ago, 16, 000 yesterday and 18, 000 today. I saw a specialist and he could not find a yolk sac and thought the gest sac was really low. He thinks I will miscarry in the next few days or have to have the decision to have a d&C. what do you think my odds are? Obviously this is not a normal pregnancy.
Well, at most normal pregnancies, you should see a fetus with a heartbeat if your HCG are over 5000, however it takes 48 hours for HCG to double. If you truly are only 5 weeks it could still be a normal early pregnancy. It also depends on the size of the gestational sac- if yours is over 2cm in size with no fetus or yolk sac seen that too is usually non-viable. However, with your HCG levels still going up, even at an abnormal rate, it cannot hurt to wait and see a while longer. It is actually unlikely you will pass the pregnancy soon with the levels still rising. If you really want this pregnancy, wait a week then repeat all the tests. If the sac doesn't grow at all or nothing develops further, it is more likely a non-viable pregnancy. There is no rush to make a decision to have a procedure- if you start to cramp and bleed, see your doctor, and you can have the procedure then if you need to.
