What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During 9 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

I m 9 1/2 weeks pregnant an I have started bleeding.. I ve been bleeding for 3 days now.. It doesn t feel any different to my normal period bu I do have a bit more clotting than usual.. The doctor have said I have a threatened miscarriage an I m waiting on a scan tomorrow!! But I am so impatient.. I don t like waiting around to find out. I have pressure in my lower abdomin an in my lower back.. I ve tried to just go about the weekend pretending I didn t fond out I was pregnant an that I m just having a period.. If I wasn t pregnant I would be due my period right now.. I m so confused.. It s taken me a year and a half to get pregnant cos. Have pcos the last thing I want is a miscarriage bu I feel like that s what is happening.. Is there anyway I can find out myself before my scan or any signs I can look for??

Dear Madam,

I have gone through your history and empathize your feelings.

If you have started bleeding at 9+ weeks, it definitely is not a good sign; moreover, the bleeding is continuous even after 3 days. As your doctor has rightly diagnosed, this is a case of threatened abortion; meaning thereby that the baby inside is still viable but the uterus is trying to throw it out. Do you have pain in abdomen? Usually threatened abortion with pain in abdomen cannot be salvaged.

Now to confirm the diagnosis, one must find out whether the baby is still viable. Urine pregnancy test is not reliable as even after the baby becomes non-viable, it takes about a week for the test to become negative.

The best investigation in this condition is ultrasonography, It reflects whether the baby is viable and also what is the cause of the bleeding. If the baby has started separating from the uterus, the chances of saving the pregnancy are low. However, if the placenta is low causing some bleeding, it may stop later on and the pregnancy can be salvaged.

There is no point in becoming emotional, madam. Please get your scan performed as your doctor has suggested and then depending upon the results of the scan, accept the management suggested by your Obstetrician. No hurried decision is going to do any good thing.

Till that, please take full bed rest. Rebelliant attitude will do nothing good in this situation.

I hope you have got the message and will act accordingly.
