What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Intercourse While Using IUD?

I have a paraguard IUD for 6 yrs. Never had any problems, but lately during intercourse I bleed like I'm having a phlebotomy. I do feel a little uncomfortable during sex. The strings of the IUD are papable, but they do feel a little different. I don't bleed during the day.
