What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy?

Hi I ve been taking Cabergoline because of a hyperprolactin since my prolactin levels have come down I started my period again and became pregnant but my HCG levels have been remaining low. My OBGYN says it might be due to ectopic pregnancy or a miscarriage. But I have not had any pain or vaginal bleeding and I m at 6 weeks pregnant. I am wondering if the medication might be suppressing my HCG levels and I actually have a viable pregnancy. Is that a possibility? They have not done any ultrasound yet because they say my HCG levels are to low to do it.

Dear Mam,
I totally understand your concerns regarding your current pregnancy.
The following points should be taken into consideration:
I guess that you have done an HCG level that was repeated in 48 hours.
1-     Inadequate rise in the level of HCG (meaning that HCG is not doubling every 48 hours) is suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy.
2-     A decrease in the level of HCG is suggestive of a failing pregnancy (abortion)
In your case the following steps should be done:
If the level of HCG is increasing but not doubling an ultrasound must be done to look for a possible ectopic pregnancy, since ectopic pregnancy can be detected at low levels of HCG (even as low as 100 as per some studies). Unlike an intrauterine gestational sac that will be detected if the level of HCG is around 1500-2000.
If HCG is decreasing this is most likely a failing pregnancy. Follow up with HCG level and an ultrasound are a good idea to make sure that the uterus is clean from retained tissues.
Best regards
