What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Post Marvelon Withdrawal?

I started taking Marbelon for the past two weeks, and kept having spotted bleeding. I decided to stop it and not take it anymore, and I believe I have withdrawal bleeding like I am on my period. How long will this bleeding last? Is this actually my period? This is my very first time taking contraceptive pills.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Marvelon is a medicine which is used in contraception, which contains desogestrel/ethinylestradiol. Since you are taking contraceptives for the first time and it is just two weeks since you started, you could experience spotting as side effect caused due to drug, mainly due to hormonal imbalance. It would have been better that you should have continued it further as your body would have adjusted and given you good protection.
Since you have stopped the drug, it has caused withdrawal bleeding. This should last like your period between 3 to 5 days, sometimes may extend for a week.
You may take an appropriate contraceptive pill on consultation with Gynecologist.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
