What Causes Vaginal Discharge After Having Diflucan For Vaginal Infection?
Hello, I recently went to the doctor for my pap smear. I also went in because I thought I may have a vaginal infection because I had been experiencing more discharge than what I considered normal for me. It turned out that I did have a yeast infection, and my doctor prescribed me 2 doses of Diflucan to take one week apart from each other. I have since taken both doses of the Diflucan, however I still seem to have a lot of vaginal discharge that is somewhat thick and mucus-like, accompanied by itching. I also seem to feel really moist and uncomfortable, and I am wondering if there could possibly be another explanation for this change? I ve also been taking the contraceptive Sprintec for the last year. Thank you
Hi, I have gone through your question. Causes of excessive vaginal discharge is either infection or cervical premalignant or malignant lesions. If your pap smear is normal, then the cervical premalignant or malignant lesions are ruled out. Thick curdy white discharge with itching is suggestive of yeast (candidal) infection and you have taken treatment for it (diflucan). I would suggest you to get a repeat vaginal smear examination to confirm the the type of candidal infections (albicans or non-albicans), as the treatment for non-albicans candidiasis is a bit longer and intensive. Hope this answers your question. Wishing you good health.
