What Causes Vaginal Discharge After Periods With Cervical Redness?

I have been on the pill and whilst on the pill I have had a brown discharge but when I come off it the discharge stopped. Ive just had my period but now Ive had several days of brown discharge. I recently went for a smear test where the nurse said my cervix was a bit red. Could it be cervical erosion or does the discharge have to be a different colour?
