What Causes Vaginal Discharge And Spotting?

Hi, I'm 21 and having vaginal discharge isn't uncommon for me. But this past couple of days it's been quite gummy with a very very tiny amount of blood in it. My period isn't due just yet, but it's never happened to me before. I was wondering what it could be?
