What Causes Vaginal Discharge With Dryness And Bleeding?

I am 53 years old have not have had a menstruation for 7 years. I have noticed a week ago increased normal discharge where I suffered a little dryness normally, so didnt think anything off it.. Last night I began bleeding. It is not a lot but I am surprised and wonder whether this can occur still occasionally in women after not having had a period for so long. I lead a rather healthy lifestyle and am not particularly stressed.
