What Causes Vaginal Infection While Having A Mirena IUD Implant?

I ve been on the mirena for a year now and ever since I got it, I ve been having problems where I have extra bacteria and been getting vaginosis and had bv once. I ve never had this happen before until I got it. Could it be from the mirena and should i get it taken out?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Yes, this may definitely be caused by IUD implant and removal should be considered. Also, swab test should be taken to see what kind of bacteria is present. In some cases it can be treated with antibiotics without IUD removal but it may be long period to heal the infection so taking it out would ba a better option. Also, if there was recent intercrouse, or pain with vaginal discharge also STD testing should be performed.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
