What Causes Vaginal Itching After Taking Antibiotics For Ear Infection?

HI, I recently started antibiotic therapy for a ear infection, after about 3days of ABT use, I started experiencing vaginal itching dismissed it first 2 days, but has gotten so bad I cannot rest. My doctor does not have on call staff, and won t return to office until Monday. I cant imagine having to go through this all weekend. My husband and I have not had intercourse because of the itching & mild burning of vulva, vaginal area which is now inflamed. Any suggestions other than going to urgent care?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Vaginal itching and burning sensation of vulva could be due to fungal infection.
Kindly wash the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice a day to maintain good hygiene.
You need to be treated with Fluconazole in the form of vaginal pessary or local application in the form of ointment.
Avoid having intercourse until the symptoms subside completely.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
